Your Questions, Answered

  • The Bristol Family Therapy Collective CIC works therapeutically with families in all combinations, as well as couples or individuals.

  • Family Therapists are often called "Systemic Psychotherapists" because they focus on

"systems"—such as families, couples, and groups—and the complex relationships that exist within those structures. We think alongside people about what is going well in their ‘systems’, what might be tricky and what people might like this to look like going forwards.

  • Families come in all shapes and forms and we welcome all of them - biological or not and at all ages. We have much experience of working in all sorts of constellations and will consider with you – the expert in your family – who might be useful for our conversations at any given time. We include couples and individuals, who might like to consider their family relations on their own, in our understanding of family therapy.

  • We work from a premise that we all experience the relationships we live in differently and that conversations about these different perspectives can help us strengthen and grow our relationships. We cherish and invite all the different voices that give families, couples and individuals such rich resources to work out how they might like to go on together.

  • Sessions can be held in consulting rooms around Bristol, online, or via a hybrid version of both. We also offer a more nature-based setting in a rustic Roundhouse at St Werburghs City Farm.

  • We are a not-for-profit CIC and through grant applications and giving much of our own time for free, we aim to create more equal access to family therapy in the community.  Our primary goal is to build bridges between people and grow resilient relationships within families and communities.

We are committed to creating access for families who may struggle to find support due to financial, social, or other disadvantages.

  • Although we created this CIC because we are passionate about being able to make high quality Family Therapy accessible to all, we also have to be mindful about creating a sustainable business to support as many families as we can for the foreseeable future. Therefore, we ask you to pay market price, if you can. We donate very large amounts of our own time for free. For transparency, when we do pay ourselves, we only ever take what would be equivalent to an NHS graded wage.
